Eaton Power Distribution Units (PDUs and ePDUs)

Eaton power distribution units (PDUs) are designed to help IT and Datacentre managers manage power within their server racks. The Eaton ePDUs range from Eaton runs from entry-level products to intelligent systems complete with network monitoring and control down including remote reboot and individual socket outlets. Power distribution units enable datacentre managers to optimise and utilise available power, plan for additional server expansion, control expenditure and manage their power-related infrastructure. Values monitored include Volts, Watts, Amps, and kWr (with a 1% accuracy over 2A).

Eaton ePDU Range and Customisation

The Eaton PDU chassis is made from rugged aluminium or steel and has fully shrouded circuit breakers and switches. They will operate up to 50degC and are designed to provide datacentre managers with a highly reliable and consist power management facility.

Type Description Monitoring Control
Basic designed for reliable and cost-effective power distribution
Monitored accurately monitor the current draw of the PDU and branch circuit to allow load planning and balancing and breaker limit management monitor current input and each branch circuit for load balancing remote monitoring and control over Ethernet or via the LED interface and scroll branch circuit data
In-Line Monitored for new or retrofit installations and for both A and B feeds fuseless and breakerless for in-line monitoring monitor and measure remotely via Ethernet or the LED interface, retrofit to existing A and B feeds without downtime
Switched allow the remote shut down or sequential reboot and overall monitoring highly accurate monitoring of V, W, A, kWr – temperature and humidity sensor options switch on/off/reboot individual sockets – control via Ethernet
Advanced Monitored provides detailed information and control for efficient datacentre operations highly accurate monitoring of V, W, A, kWr – temperature and humidity sensor options monitor and measure key parameters and generate alerts remotely over Ethernet or the advanced LCD screen

Eaton ePDUs can be customised to provide the exact power density and monitoring requirements you require. Socket configurations include: UK, Schuko, French and IEC (C13 and C19 with mains power leads unterminated or fitted with UK, Schuko, EN60309 or IEC (C14 or C20) plugs – see our IEC Plugs and Sockets Guide.

Intelligent Power Manager Software

Eaton IPM PDU Software

Eaton ePDUs are designed for remote monitoring via SNMP or Eaton’s proprietary management software known as IPM. The Eaton Intelligent Power Manager software can be used with both Eaton UPS and PDUs over an IP network and runs on a web browser. The software is designed to simplify the management process of high volumes of information.

IPM integrates with VMware vCenter in virtualised environments and can trigger vMotion to move virtual machines to other servers or sites, resulting in zero downtime from power failures.

IPM also integrates with the Eaton Intelligent Power Protection (IPP) software for the safe and controlled shutdown of protected servers. IPP works supports traditional server OS and works with VMware ESX, Microsoft Hyper-V, Xen and KVM virtual environments and is free to download for up to 10 devices.
